The Royal Thames Yacht Club treated the class to four excellent races on a really interesting race course on the Solent. A delay whilst the gradient was mixed with an emerging thermal breeze, gave the assembled teams on Bramble Bank an early-season social.

A glorious start to the UK season on the Solent, which delivered two standout days of racing in a steady south easterly. 25 teams lined up for Grand Slam 1, hosted by the Royal Thames Yacht Club, with tight racing and a constantly shifting leaderboard.

Grand Slam 1, 25th-26th April, hosted by the Royal Thames yacht club, gets the UK J/70 season underway and marks the start of the class’s seven-event Grand Slam series. More than 20 J/70s will set out from the Hamble River and Cowes, meeting on the Hill Head plateau for the first racing of the season.

The GS series has continued to grow, with huge momentum building across the fleet; 2025 saw record numbers of new teams and owners joining the Class. A total of 52 teams took part in the 2025 series (up from 42 in 2024), with 75 UK class members now active both at home and internationally.

After briefly considering the option of a near certain gentlemanly second place or a gloves off, no quarter given, duel to the death, we sharpened the boat knife and prepared for that rare and exciting event – a match race within a fleet race to win the series and become South Coast Champions.

This decision follows the proven success of RaceSense at major international events and represents a significant step forward in delivering fairer, faster, and more efficient racing for both sailors and race officials.

Following the launch of the Corinthian World Championships in 2023, the Mixed Plus Worlds represent a further evolution of the class. Designed not just to create another championship, but to actively reshape who gets to compete, and how teams come together.

The 2025 J/70 UK National Championships, one of the most anticipated highlights of the season, fully lived up to expectations. This year’s event was made even more special as part of the Royal Thames Yacht Club’s 250th Anniversary Regatta, providing a fitting stage for a standout Nationals.

35 teams are set to line up for this year’s J/70 UK Nationals, hosted by the Royal Thames Yacht Club (RTYC) as part of the 250th Anniversary Regatta. With a strong turnout and a mix of seasoned teams and new faces, this year’s Nationals promise some epic racing.

Having suffered through some tough conditions in Grand Slam 1, the forecasts were looking hopeful for the second event of the UK J/70 Season. As we got closer to the event it was anyone’s guess as to how the racing would pan out. 

Support continues for a third consecutive year, with a full calendar ahead and Nationals a highlight event as part of the Royal Thames Yacht Club 250th regatta. The UK J/70 Class is delighted to announce Tideway Wealth Management as a returning sponsor for the 2025 season.

Cascais is set to host the highly anticipated inaugural J/70 Corinthian European Championship from April 1st to April 6th, 2025. Organized by the Clube Naval de Cascais, the event will bring together over 50 international teams to compete in one of the world’s top sailing venues, known for its epic waves and breeze.

It was back to the Solent for this year’s Tideway J/70 National Championship, with Royal Yacht Squadron hosting the regatta. Charles Thompson’s Brutus were clear favourites, despite having had a mixed start to 2024. They went into this regatta as reigning World & National Champions.

With three major J/70 championships in Europe this year and the introduction of two new categories, the 2024 UK J/70 Season will not disappoint. The Grand Slam Series includes six premier events in the Solent, including Cowes Week Short Series and the J/70 Nationals.

The UK J/70 Class has launched the 2024 Grand Slam Series. The Grand Slam Series consists of 6 premier J/70 events in the Solent. It includes Cowes Week Short Series, the J/70 Nationals and four weekend events across the season from April to October.

The UK J/70 Class is delighted to celebrate an outstanding international success, as Brutus were crowned J/70 World Championship Champions 2023, bringing the world title back to the United Kingdom from St. Petersburg Yacht Club. Sailed from 31 October to 4 November, the championship featured ten races in spectacular conditions.

Josie Gliddon was one of a number of women racing at the J/70 European Championship, although she really doesn’t like the gender question. “Everyone who knows me knows that I sail as a sailor,” says Gliddon who was steering Brutus II owned by Charlie Thompson.
