J70 Grand Slam 2022 – Event #2
Dates – April 30th – May 2nd
As an event outside the Solent, this note is to provide a little more information to potential competitors.
Organising Authority – Combined Yacht Clubs of Poole in conjunction with the Poole Yacht Racing Association
Notice of Race – available at POOLE_REGATTA_2022_NOR_ONLINE.pdf (pooleregatta.co.uk)
Event website and Entry – Poole Regatta – Join us for Poole Regatta 2022
Racing will be held (weather permitting) in Poole Bay using windward-leeward courses. Schedule is for up to 8 races. Currently the plan is to share a course with HP30s
Berthing, Launch and Recovery
J70s will be berthed at Poole Quay Boat Haven. Launching and recovery, if needed, will be by a single point lift crane close to the Haven. Please note that berthing and launch/recovery need to be booked separately when you enter!
Trailing the boat to Poole is only a short trip from the Solent. Sailing to Poole is also an option and has been done in the past! Adam Munday has offered to provide some assistance with logistics if needed.
Social Program – the OA have set up a comprehensive social program – including
- Friday 29th April – 1900-2100 Competitor reception on board Purbeck Princess moored at Poole Quay Boat Haven (free beer was mentioned….)
- Saturday 30th April – Day prizegiving, music and entertainment – Parkstone Yacht club
- Sunday 1st May – Day prizegiving – music and entertainment – Poole Yacht club
- Monday 2nd May – Day and Overall prizegiving – Parkstone Yacht Club
Sailors suppers will be available at the evening events at Parkstone and Poole YC’s on the Saturday and Sunday
Free Water taxis are available between the clubs and the Haven, as well as a fee late night onshore taxi service.
Poole has plenty of accommodation – the Regatta has useful links at Shoreside – Poole Regatta – plus of course there are the usual bookings.com, Airbnb etc etc.
We would encourage all of our class to come along, participate and support the emerging Poole J70 fleet. Everything is being set up to make it as easy as possible to take part, so go on, dare to get that boat out of the Solent (with apologies to those of you who are not welded to the Hamble…!)
