16 J/70 teams started the 2022 J/70 UK Grand Slam Series on Saturday 09 April.
Four windward leeward races were organised as part of the Warsash Sailing Club Spring Series. Top J/70 on Day 1 in the Open Class was Martin Dent’s Jelvis (1,1,4,4). Charles Thompson’s Brutus, with Sam Carter on the tiler (2,2,1,5), was second on countback.

Third in Open and top Corinthian boat was Johnathon Calascione’s Calypso with Marshall King driving (4,4,6,1). Calypso was top Corinthian J/70, by countback alone from Doug Struth’s DSP (7,3,2,3). Third in Corinthian was Jack Davies’ Yeti (11,5,7,7).
Class Captain Marshall King commented: ““The race committee completed 4 great races in shifty wind and tidal conditions. Racing was very close with loads of place changes. We manage to fight through the fleet after some bad starts and finally got it right in race four with a bullet”.
All of the J/70 Class, family and friends were invited to the Royal Southern Yacht Club for beers and curry after racing, where it was revealed that there are some real animals in the class!

Racing concludes for Round One J/70 Grand Slam, today, Sunday 10th April.
