34 strong J/70 fleet for Cowes Week

The J/70 Class will be racing at Cowes Week for Round Five of the J/70 UK Class Grand Slam Series. Racing in a mini-series of four days from July 31st to August 3rd 2021. With 34 entries, this is the largest fleet of J/70s racing in the UK since the 2019 J/70 World Championship.

The current J/70 Open National Champion, Graham Clapp’s Jeepster will be in action. As will the reigning J/70 Corinthian National Champion, Charles Thompson’s Brutus II. 2021 Regatta winners for the J/70 Class will also be racing, including Calascione & Peters’ Calypso, Nick Phillips’ Chaotic, Patrick Liardet’s Cosmic.

The J/70 Class welcomes new teams racing at Cowes Week including numerous teams that have chartered J/70s from the Royal Thames YC, Royal Yacht Squadron and Royal Southern. Isabel Scruby will be at the helm of a team of all female members from the Royal Thames Yacht Club.

For three days of the regatta, the J/70 Class will have the honour of being the first start off the Royal Squadron Line. Race fans will be able to watch the start from Cowes Parade with the J/70 fleet gathering at about 10.00 am each day. The J/70 Class will have up to three races per day.
