01 October, 2020 – UPDATE J/70 UK Class Committee

The J70 Class are enjoying a rescheduled UK Grand Slam racing series with 6 events scheduled from J Cup hosted by RORC on the island in early September to the Solent Championships hosted by the Royal Yacht Squadron on 7th & 8th November. We have 4 more events and your best 3 event scores count for the Grand Slam Trophy. The rest of the series dates are:

Royal Thames 3rd & 4th October
Hamble One Design Championships 10th & 11th October
Hamble One Design Championships 24th & 25th October
Royal Yacht Squadron 7th & 8th November

We have more than 20 boats at each event with some of the best racing in the Solent. New teams are joining the class and enjoying the racing.

The UK Class is in close contact with the RYA and following the latest advice on keeping all of our sailors safe during the CV-19 pandemic. We are sailing with a change to our Class Rules with a maximum crew limit of 4 and we recognise that this is a disadvantage to lighter weight teams and to some of our youth and ladies sailors. We will be racing with a crew limit of 4 for the rest of the UK Grand Slam Series but we will also be looking at how we can get back to normal racing as soon as possible for next season. We are planning more racing for 2021 plus some UK Class Training for all, a short course “Sprint Series” and a full programme of racing. Look forward to seeing you out on the water !
