J/70 teams from all over the world are arriving at the Royal Torbay Yacht Club to complete their registration for the Darwin Escapes 2019 J/70 World Championships. A practice race will be held on Sunday 01 September, followed by the Competitors’ Briefing and the Opening Ceremony.

- 14:00 Practice race in Tor Bay with first warning signal scheduled for 14:00 BST.
- 18:15 All sailors will be in the Event Marquee, for a Competitors’ Briefing.
- 19:00 Darwin Escapes 2019 J/70 World Championships Opening Ceremony.
Weather outlook: Sunday 01 September – 04 September, 2019
Forecasts suggest that all of the weather affecting the race area will be coming from the Atlantic for the early part of the regatta. Several weather fronts are expected, producing a variable gradient wind direction, perhaps between a northwesterly and southwesterly direction. The wind in Tor Bay is expected to come from the land giving shifty and puffy conditions.
A low pressure front is due to sweep across the UK during Saturday 31 August, clearing Tor Bay in the afternoon. On Sunday 01 September for the practice race, we should see a northwesterly gradient breeze, which may build during the day. The wind direction will bring polar maritime air, with fresh and cooler conditions and occasional showers. For Monday 02 September, the first day of racing, southwesterly winds are forecast, largely dry compared to the North of England where heavy rain is expected, in general the wind strength should be light to medium. For Tuesday 03 September, a brisk wind from the west or southwest is predicted with another weather front due to arrive from the Atlantic during the day from the west. Wednesday 04 September, the wind expected to return to the northwest, lowering the air temperature with wind speed predicted to be medium to strong.
